The Gift of the Magi

The Gift of the Magi (1906) Author: O'Henry

As I was reading this story while I was here at the university, I could not stop thinking about materialism and how important is to us the fact of givinf stuff in order to feel happines. The story gives us the thought of how nothing matters when we want to get the approval in our loved ones, in terms of material stuff instead of appreciating daily and normal things such as facial gestures or things like that.

We live in a society that a present is just an item you buy on a store, you carry it with you for a couple of days or hours for finally give it. Maybe in the course of this "giving-the-present" process you could wrap it up. But no more than that. It is just meaningless.

  1. Good reflection :), this story gives us the opportunity to think about the important things in life, sometimes we think that by giving the "perfect present" we will show our love to our loved ones, but there are times that we forget about showing our care in daily life...

So what would you have done in his shoes?
